ABOUT THE DOWNTOWN FAMILY
In the heart of Buffalo, the Downtown Family of Catholic Parishes brings together some of the city’s most historic and spiritually significant Catholic communities. From St. Louis, Western New York’s first Catholic parish and Mother Church of the Diocese of Buffalo, to St. Joseph Cathedral, the spiritual center of the Diocese, our family carries nearly two centuries of prayer, service, beauty, and Catholic witness. Blessed Sacrament’s legacy on Delaware Avenue, St. Michael’s Jesuit roots near the Medical Corridor, and St. Anthony of Padua’s enduring place in Buffalo’s Italian-American and Latin Catholic life each add a distinctive chapter to this shared story.
Today, our parishes serve residents, workers, students, visitors, and families across downtown Buffalo, Elmwood Village, the Theatre District, the Delaware District, and the Medical Corridor. United by the Eucharist and strengthened by our diverse traditions, we invite all who seek Christ, community, beauty, and belonging to worship with us and help carry this living heritage forward.
